Help Survivors Find Freedom from Spiritual Abuse
Your Gift Changes Lives
Right now, in religious communities across the globe, people are questioning whether what they're experiencing is really a reflection of God's love. They're afraid to speak up, unsure who to trust, and don't know there's a way out.
Sadly, 80% of spiritual abuse survivors say that their experience with the church after their abuse devastated their spiritual life even further.
Your gift today can change that.

Derek's Story: Finding Healing After a Decade in a Cult
When Derek first came to beEmboldened, he was three years out of a high-control religious group he'd been part of for a decade. Working in a leadership role at a faith-based rescue mission, he regularly witnessed death and loss in the unhoused community he served. The weight of caring for his team through these traumas was crushing—especially because he hadn't yet processed his own grief and trauma from leaving a cult.
After a negative experience with a Christian counselor, Derek was hesitant. But he needed someone with a shared worldview who could understand both his cult experience and the constant darkness he faced in his work.
"Being able to process my story as a victim of spiritual abuse with someone that knew the damage this kind of control could perpetrate was deeply healing and validating. I didn't need to try and convince the mentor that what I experienced was wrong, I didn't have to justify why I was hurt, there was a baseline understanding that I and the mentor could build from."
Through trauma-informed mentoring at beEmboldened, Derek found healing not only from his past but also strength to face the challenges in his current direction and goals.

Adrianne: Finding Words for Her Experience
Over 15 years, Adrianne experienced harmful treatment in both church settings and at a Christian organization where she worked. The leaders she served under behaved in ways that left her hurt, confused, and wondering why the places that should feel safest, didn't. Despite a lifetime of faith and years of post-graduate theological education, she struggled to name, comprehend, and process those experiences.
Eventually she heard the term "spiritual abuse," which led her to beEmboldened's website.
"It was truly surreal to find so much of what I had experienced written and spoken by others in the blogs and podcasts."
Starting with free resources at her own pace, Adrianne eventually took our Rebuilding [After Religious Abuse] course.
"It would be hard to overstate how important beEmboldened has been in my healing process. I've been able to put words to what I experienced, understand the impact it has had on my mind, body, and soul, and untangle a very complex web of experiences. In short, beEmboldened provided the resources I needed to find a way forward."
Your gift helps provide free resources and accessible courses for survivors like Adrianne.

Danielle: The Gift of Financial Support
After leaving a high-control religious group, Danielle felt lost and unsure of what she believed—about God, about herself, and about where her life was headed. The transition was overwhelming.
"I've described it as graduating college, being released from prison, and leaving the military all at the same time."
Navigating work, housing, friendships, and faith often felt impossible. She desperately needed support, but the financial burden seemed insurmountable.
Then, an anonymous donor covered 50% of her two years in mentoring.
"I am incredibly grateful for the anonymous donor who covered half of my mentoring. Having the financial burden lifted allowed me to focus fully on healing and it truly became a life-changing gift."
Today, Danielle says:
"My time in mentoring was absolutely worth it. The process was hard and often painful—especially working through the wounds of spiritual abuse—but the freedom and healing I've found on the other side have made it so worth it. My experience with beEmboldened has deeply impacted my life. It's given me the space to process spiritual abuse, wrestle through questions of theology, and begin to see what a healthy, loving community can really look like."
Your gift can be the lifeline that makes healing possible for someone who cannot afford support, oftentimes due to financial exploitation by an abusive spiritual leader.

Derek: Professional Support That Understands
Derek needed someone who wouldn't require him to justify his pain or to convince them that what he experienced was wrong. He needed trauma-informed care from someone who understood the unique damage of spiritual abuse.
"beEmboldened cares deeply about each person's story and the real-life impact of spiritual abuse in their lives. They care deeply about the body of Christ and represent it in a way that I believe honors Christ, and that love and care go beyond the walls of the church, offering hope and healing to anyone who has been wounded, which I believe is the heart of Christ. I believe those who have been hurt are in safe hands with their team."
Your gift helps provide programs created and led by trained professionals who have lived experience.
